How to Buy Jin Jun Mei (Golden Eyebrow) Without Getting Scammed
The Chinese tea market is vast and unregulated. Here's exactly what to look for — and what to run from.
Entry Level
$20-40 / 100g
Premium / Collector
$60-150+ / 100g (Tongmu origin, pure bud, early spring)
Quality Check
Fine, golden-tipped buds, densely covered in gold. Genuine Jin Jun Mei is made only from buds from the Tongmu protected area. The honey-lychee character is unmistakable; anything thin or astringent is not the real thing.
Common Scams
Cheap 'Jin Jun Mei' using ordinary leaves or later harvests — real Jin Jun Mei is bud-only from Tongmu, which makes it expensive. Leaf pieces instead of whole golden buds are a giveaway.

History
Where It Comes From
Created in 2005 in Tongmu Village — the same protected area that produced the world's first black tea — by a team reviving the region's highest-grade production. Made exclusively from the bud of the local cultivar, it became a luxury tea phenomenon almost overnight, helping to fuel a black-tea renaissance in China.
Ideal For
A celebration tea. If you want to show someone how sweet and smooth a black tea can be, this is the one.
